Terry Stolz is a contemporary artist working in oil and mixed media. His large-scale paintings move between atmospheric landscapes and familiar objects, reducing each subject to its essential form while emphasizing surface, scale, and material.
Stolz builds his own cradled wood panels and develops each painting through layers of collage and oil paint. He incorporates the everyday visual noise we throw away, allowing fragments of printed material to remain visible—or partially buried—within the finished surface. Marks, textures, and underlying color preserve the history of the painting as it is built.
Whether depicting passing weather or an isolated fried egg, Stolz removes narrative context and gives the subject an unexpected physical presence. The familiar becomes slightly strange, while abstraction remains grounded in something recognizable.
